Hi, Fed & Fab friends! Well, I know I said in my last post that I was trying to be better about posting more regularly but yet again it’s been a month since my last post. Eeek! I even brought my laptop with me on a trip to see my family in Michigan earlier this month, in hopes that I could knock out a bunch of posts. But, all I managed to do was finally finish the last season of Parenthood and binge watch the first season of Pretty Little Liars (for all you PLL fans, I’m starting to regret getting hooked on a show that takes six seasons to reveal who “A” is!).
Anyhow, back to business. I know I’ve been a little heavy on the beauty posts lately, but I’ve purchased a bunch of great stuff I want to share with you all.
Today, I’m focusing on drugstore makeup. As I said in an earlier post, I’m really starting to get into drugstore products. But gone are my days of impulse purchasing things in hopes they work out. Instead, I’ve been watching tons of drugstore-themed YouTube videos from my favorite vloggers and have picked up some products at their recommendation. I haven’t been disappointed yet! In fact, with the exception of two product, the corrector and the translucent powder, I bought all of these products based on the rave reviews from Tati Westbrook from Glam Life Guru, one of my most loved beauty YouTubers (check out this post for two more of my faves!)!
I’m sharing six great products today that I’ve recently picked up. All of these have been in heavy rotation in my daily routine. Ironically, the majority are from Maybelline (the irony being that I rarely purchased Maybelline in the past!). Drumroll, please …
L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation – $12.99
This is by far the best drugstore foundation I’ve ever used. I picked it up after watching a Tati video, and I’m so glad I tried it. Here’s the thing: I never would have been drawn to this foundation based on the name alone. When it comes to foundation, anything that has “Matte” in the name always scares me. I want my skin to look a little dewy and not heavy and cakey. This foundation is medium coverage and L’Oréal describes the finish as “demi-matte” –which means it gives a hint of dewiness but still covers really well. I always, always, always apply mine with a damp Beautyblender sponge, which gives an airbrushed look. I love that it sinks into my skin really well. It’s a bit pricey for the amount of product you get, but I think the quality is up there with high-end foundations!
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – $6.99
Fed & Fab friends, meet my new favorite concealer. I originally picked this product up in two shades (one light, one dark) that I planned to use for highlighting and contouring. I find myself reaching for the light shade every day for regular concealing. (The dark shade is a great option for contouring too, but it’s not something I do every day!) What I love most about this concealer is that it’s thin, yet still somehow seems to cover really well. It also doesn’t sink into fine lines as much as others I’ve used. The range of shades is fantastic, and it’s a super-affordable price point too!
Maybelline Dream LumiTouch Highlighting Concealer in Radiant – $7.99
I came across this product when I was researching drugstore brand correctors. If you read my post about concealing and correcting, you’ll recall that using a peachy shade is best to neutralize bluish-toned dark circles. My tried and true makeup review site turned me onto this product in the shade Radiant, a peachy/salmon color – thus making it a great corrector. I’m a few years late to the game (I think it came out in 2012), but I’m definitely digging it. This particular shade isn’t meant to be used as a concealer. Rather, I apply this after my concealer only to the blue-toned areas under the eye. They have other shades that are appropriate for concealing – though I can’t vouch for how much coverage this gel-like product would provide. This shade also has a touch of illuminator added to it, which helps reflects light in the inner corners of your eyes. Will it replace my Holy Grail MuD corrector? Probably not, but it’s great to know there’s a good drugstore option out there!
e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Translucent – $6.00
While we’re on the topic of face products, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share this one. If you’re a big fan of translucent powder, this one is definitely worth a try. This powder is very similar to Make Up Forever’s HD Microfinish Powder, as well as the NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder. It looks white in the package, but goes on translucent. You really don’t need much; in fact, you can quickly tell if you apply too much, as it will leave a white, powdery look to your skin. I use this for setting my undereye concealer, as well a light dusting over my oily spots. The price is amazing! There are other high-end translucent powders I’ve been dying to try, but this is a great buy for me when I run out and can’t get to Sephora anytime soon.
Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Glazed Toffee – $7.99
If you’re looking for an eyeliner with massive staying power, look no further. This product is a gel formula in a pencil form. I can literally rub my eyes and it won’t budge. I love the control of a pencil, and the fact that I don’t have to dirty an eyeliner brush to apply it. But above all, I’m obsessed with the color. It’s a gorgeous, rich brown color that is perfect for every day. One thing to know: Because this is a gel formula, I found the pencil to be a little softer than I was used to. So take care in applying it, as you don’t need a heavy hand.
Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick – $7.49
When it comes to lipstick, I can’t stand dry formulas. It’s part of the reason I tend to lean toward glosses in general. So, when I heard Tati raving about this formula as being super creamy, I decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint! It gives really even, creamy coverage and applies like a dream. I’m not wild about the scent, which is kind of sugary, but it doesn’t have any kind of taste to it (which some lipsticks totally have). I have the shade Stormy Sahara, which is a nude shade, but I totally plan to buy more next time I’m at Ulta and Maybelline is on sale!
