As of late, I’ve been something of a gym rat. After packing on some extra pounds following our wedding last year, it got to a point where my clothes were starting to get reeeeaallly tight and the number on the scale was higher than it had ever been before. So, like pretty much every red-blooded American, I made a New Year’s resolution to get back into shape.
Come January 1, I started getting my butt to the gym no less than 4 days a week. With that much time at the gym, you start to take notice of things …. like the way fellow gym-goers dress. And at my gym, it seems as if there’s a requirement that women must wear Lululemon. Don’t get me wrong … I love Lululemon. They make some seriously cute workout gear that I absolutely adore. But, I don’t really love shelling out $150 for a pair of workout leggings and a top. I mean, if you’re hitting the gym 4 or 5 times a week, that’s like $600 in workout outfits!
No, I’m more of a “quantity” kind of girl. And, not trying to brag, but I’ve amassed what I think is a really cute wardrobe of workout gear that was all seriously affordable. With my penchant for shopping, I’m constantly looking for new places to find great deals on clothes I can wear to work up a sweat. Here’s a list of some of my favorite sources – along with a few new ones I have yet to try … but you better believe I will be soon! Oh, and for fun, I picked out one super cute item from each of the retailers below. Not a single item is over $25—heck, you could buy all of them for less than $100—and they are all beyond adorable!
Forever 21: When I discovered that F21 had an activewear line, I freaked. Super fashionable workout clothes at prices so cheap they’re practically giving them away? Sign me up! Obviously, you do get what you pay for in most instances … so is it likely the workout leggings are a tad see-through? Probably. But who cares when you can buy 7 items for less than the price of one Lulu outfit? (No joke, my shopping cart currently has two bras, two tanks, capri leggings, running shorts and a post-workout pullover for $106.).
Item I’m currently coveting: Ladderback Cami Sports Bra, $12.90.
Target: OK, this one is kind of obvious, but Target makes some super cute workout clothes. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably at least perused the activewear section while meandering around the store for an hour adding things to your cart that you definitely didn’t come in for. The prices are great, and I’ve been really happy with the quality.
Item I’m currently coveting: Champion Women’s Cardio Capri Legging in Lilac/Black Polka Dot, $24.99.
H&M: Fashion meets fitness with the collection at H&M – and at a very wallet-friendly price. I haven’t personally purchased anything from their sportswear line yet. I stress the word “yet.” With some gorgeous prints and cool silhouettes, it’s at the top of my list to try!
Item I’m currently coveting: Sports Tank Top, $24.95.
Missguided: Also topping my list of workout lines to try is Missguided. This ultra-hip British e-tailer just launched its activewear line earlier this year. It’s edgy, it’s hip, and it’s super affordable. And you can be pretty certain you’ll be the only gal at the gym wearing it. I’ve been plotting my first order for the last few days and am having the hardest time narrowing down what I want! The only downside on this line is that the pieces are in UK sizing, and I’m not quite sure how they’ll fit. Once I try it out, I’ll report back!
Item I’m currently coveting: Active Racer Back Train Dirty Gym Vest, $24.00.
Old Navy: Yes, this is another totally “duh” addition to the list, but still worth mentioning. I own many, many items from the Old Navy activewear line. It’s affordable and totally on trend. And, considering they have sales, like, ALL the time, it’s usually really easy to get a great deal. I absolutely love the motivational tees and tanks they’ve been producing lately … I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need that extra little push at the gym to keep me going. With these, all you have to do is look in the mirror!
Item I’m currently coveting: Active Graphic Muscle Tee with “Push Yourself” saying, $14.00.
Nordstrom Rack: I can’t begin to express my love for this store. Don’t get me wrong, I love the regular Nordies … but I also love a deal. It wasn’t until just recently that I realized they have a pretty kickass sportswear section (I tend to focus my shopping efforts in the women’s contemporary section, shoes and purses). From Nike and Addidas to Trina Turk (I love that designers are adding activewear lines!) to the Nordstrom exclusive brand Z by Zella, there are so many great brands available at highly discounted rates. Obviously, inventory will vary depending on the store — but you can also shop online (which I totally didn’t know!).
Item I’m currently coveting: Marika Tek Printed Capri Legging, $18.97.
